At home I have two computers, One PC Desktop and one Laptop. I am trying to configure them for a home network so that we can share files between the two computers but am having problems. My Desktop PC is connected by Ethernet Cable to a (Cable&Wireless adslr10cw3 Wireless Modem/Router) The Laptop is connected to this Modem by Wireless USB Adaptor. I firstly used the Desktop PC to setup the connection by going into CONTROL PANEL, NETWORK CONNECTIONS and then NETWORK SETUP WIZARD. I followed the instructions. CONNECT THROUGHT RESIDENTIAL GATEWAY, workgroup name MSHOME, TURN ON PRINTER AND FILE SHARING, and the FINISH WIZARD. I then do the same on the Laptop but even after rebooting both computers, neither one or the other shows in the MY NETWORK PLACES.

Help needed urgent.

Thanks in advance:)

in the cmd line type in ipconfig /all

then try to ping each of the computers IPs from each other

can you ping them?

go to Start > Run > type cmd and hit enter

at the command line the ip of each of your comptuers, then try to ping it. For example, if you do a ipconfig /all on your desktop and it has an ip address of 192.168.1.100

then in the command line on your laptop type in ping 192.168.1.100 (or whatever IP your desktop has).

If they can't ping each other you have connection problems.
