When my computer is off, a hissing sound eminates from the computer speakers, whilst when I switch it on, the sound stops. What could be causing this, and how might I rectify the problem?

umm, could just turn off the speakers at night. most speakers have a slight hissing due to interferince and electricity still in the computer. also, some cheap soundcard will have more hissing than a good one.

I do switch them off at night. I was just wondering if there was something I could do to stop it happening in the first place. Sound is from an integrated 24-bit SoundBlaster.

I'm not sure what exactly you mean. They plug into one speaker port, providing stereo sound, are supplied with power from an adapter plugged into the mains and I think they have an RMS of about 5 watts...
