Higher quality web cam ?

Hi there!

I have been poking around the internet for something higher quality than the typical $100 webcam in combination with the most common web cam applications.

Right now, I'm connecting up with a webcam and am using SightSpeed at home with a DSL connection. My friends and I are unhappy with the video quality. I've also tried other applications like yahoo, aol, messenger, etc..

Seems like the quality is pretty much the same.

is there a step up to something better? we're willing to spend a little money to make it happen, just don't have any idea where to look. We're looking for something with a super clear picture.

i appreciate anyone with some good advice.

Thanks!
KC

Logitech sphere cam?

I had the same problems you're experiencing, bought this cam and sorted it right out for me:)

hmm... I'm not too familiar with the webcam sort of stuff, but I have heard that a Firewire capable camcorder can be used as a webcam with a simple program (I believe it costs money, not sure how much). You may want to look into that, because almost all camcorders are far superior to webcams.

I use a Logitech Quick Cam Pro...can't remember the model # but i bought it at Best Buy about a year ago or so. Think it was around $120. Not a bad idea using camcorders. We all have DV Cams too...relatively new too.

Just seems like with the webcam, the video is very pixelated and movement is choppy. I really don't understang the technology well enough to know what part of our setups is slowing the process down or maybe we're getting the best there is already.

The quality you are experiencing is because video running at anything higher takes up too much bandwidth. And firewire camcorders usually arent recognized by messengers as webcams. Does it really matter anyways?

like I said, there is a progam available to make it recognized.

i called SightSpeed and they do support camcorders with firewire connection. i plan on giving it a try....i just wish there was a MUCH better way to do it to get better quality....

maybe i should be a little clearer in my request for help too...

i realize there are ways to make SMALL improvements to my setup.

What i'm really wondering is, is there some OTHER way to do this webcam thing that makes a dramatic difference in quality?
