high gain antenna

I havent had any personal experience with any of these antennas but im sure it would help you to recieve a stronger signal. Also if your looking at one to buy it would definately be the 2nd one in your posts.
 
you will see a large increase in your range from both of the items you listed. The gain show on the ebay one seems to behigher, but i think those figures have been masaged a little bit.
jancz3rt has more experience in this field, maybe pm him?

Ok to WIFI ;). These omnidirectional antennas should be more than fine for in-house use. Haha...just to mention...I was connected to a 10dB omni over a distance of 1.4km (however it was a very good one from EDIMAX). Anyway, you will definitely see an improvement as those on many devices are 2dB antennas which can run into problems in terms of signal strength.

Now I have a 24dB antenna which is far too much for home use and is actually not suitable because it is highly directional.

well this generic card sucks, im having more trouble than just getting a signal, so i will be returning it and getting a new one. i was doing some searching around and found a couple viable alternatives

first is this one on newegg which says it has a dipole antenna(whats the difference between that and a normal external) also it says it has a 15db antenna on it(as in better than the external one i linked to earlier?), but it states that the range is the same as all others.


whichever one i get i will probably be getting one of these to go along with it..

my main question is about the dipole though.. what exactly does that mean?

i have an older dlink 802.11b router which will be upgraded in time, but will do for now as all i really want is internet and printer sharing.... some files here and there but nothing to bad.

i was also looking at this one, i dont really need the extra speed(as i cant use it anyways... but does the super g also increase range as well as speed?)

main reason i was considering the gigabyte one is because i did a search on newegg for atheros(this is whats listed under the laptops wireless card and it has no trouble getting signal up here, and the gigabyte came up when i did a search for atheros)

a dipole is a term i learned in physics, it is a cylinder that emmits an emf (electro-magnetic force) for an antena i would guesse it sends the signol through electromagnetic waves, or perhaps it recieves a signol through the the force of the waves it eminates reacting with waves it recieves
