high case temp

The ambient temperature in my case is reported by speedfan to be 39C while the room temperature is 26C. HDD 1 is 34C, HDD 2 is 38C and my celeron 2.66Ghz is idling at 53C. I have a raidmax scorpion case with a side intake fan and 2 rear exhaust fans. I have cable tied all my cables out of the way to improve airflow. What would be the most efficient/cost effective way to bring the case temp inline with room temp? I think this is the reason for my high processor temp which is annoying because it throttles at 67C and I get lagggg... when im about to kill someone in condition zero.

I dont think SpeedFan can monitor your case temp unless your motherboard has an external temp sensor. The reason for your processor temp is because the cpu is working much harder when your playing a game then when your just in windows, i would put some Artic Silver 5 on it if you can.

One of the most common reason, and often overlooked,is dirty fans. By this I mean grime on the fan blades which really impedes air flow. Clean them thoroughly with Q-Tips and 99 % alcohol which evaporates rapidly. Just make sure the fan blades are dry before starting up.

I run Folding@Home with 100% CPU utilization. The only way I was able to get my CPU temps under 105°F(40°C) was to directly duct external air to the fan/heatsink combo. Otherwise, I was just using hot case air to try to spot cool the CPU. Adding a more powerful case fan dropped my case temp to 96°F(36°C) in a 74°F(23°C) room.

I have 4 spots in the bottom front of my case to put 80mm fans in. Is it worth doing since airflow from there would be disrupted by hdds and ide cables?

Im also ordering a thermalright XP-90 heatsink with 92mm fan and am going to put some arctic silver 5 on it. I also might replace the side intake fan with a Thermaltake Smart Fan II and duct that into my new hs/fan.

Did you just buy the cpu ventilation duct or did u make it yourself? The problem with buying one is the side fan is 80mm and fan on cpu is 92m.

1. No matter what fans you have, you gotta arrange your cables to lie out the way of the airflow. Flatten them out, even gently folding them, as best you can. Take a look inside a Voodoo PC to get ideas:D
2. I made the duct myself by cutting a hole in the side of my PC and using breakfast cereal boxes and aluminum HVAC tape... and my CPU fan is just 60mm.

My Thermalright XP-90 just came in and I installed it with some artic silver 5. The cpu idles at 47 which is 2 degrees lower. Under full load it doesnt get above 58 no matter how long it is working for, which is what I wanted (No more throttle lag :)). All I have to do now is to get the case temp lower than 38C. This morning i booted it up and because my bedroom window was open all night the case temp was 28C and my cpu idled at 38C. That is the case temp i am trying to maintain. Stronger exhaust, intake fans or maybe a front case fan or two?
