Hey i have a big problem with this pc and the internet! The internet on this computer keeps randomly shutting off, ive had this computer for about 5 months and no other problems with it. we are hooked up to a router, but this never happens to my sisters compaq computer just mine about 13 times a day!! i even unpluged the router and just pluged them modem directly into this pc, and still no luck it always shuts off, then i have to restart the whole computer just to get the internet back on.... Its a major pain in the butt because i can't download mods or nothing for games.. seems if the download is longer than 8 mins, the internet will shut off. But it lets me download steam games perfectly fine. Does anyone have any ideas on whats going on??? your help would be greatly appreciated!!!! Specs

windows xp home
3800x2
1 gig ram
500 psu
x1950 pro
sound blaster 4

and the internet is onboard. oh and i tried changing the ethernet cable..

Yeah, i downloaded all updates, and the newest motherboard drivers. basically if i download it from IE or Firefox it will shut off, or if im playing diablo 2 itll shut off. But if i download a game from steam that takes an hour or whatever its fine and wont shut off:confused: ive tried everything, i was just wondering is there a setting i should change?

Do you have your XP disk and key? if you do, i would reccomend just reinstalling if it is that bad and a worm. Otherwise, try it on some other internet at another persons house or whatnot.

Yeah...sounds like a variant of the Blaster virus, which normally restarts the PC about 5mins after you access the internet...every time.
It normally displays a message like the one shown here

try this....
Open "RUN", type in "services.msc /s", press enter.
find the entry in the right-hand window called "Remote Procedure Call (RPC)", righ-click it and select "Properties", click on the "Recovery" tab.
In the drop-down box for "First Failure" change it to "restart service...do the same for the two boxes below it.
Click "Apply"

Once you have do that, try downloading & running the Blaster Removal Tool from Symantec.

More information can be found here

lol. no i restart the pc, then the internet will work perfectly fine, its just if i download something and it takes longer than 10 minutes or is really huge itll turn off, and when i had this comp built it was always like that, and then i moved a while back, and just thought it was the internet provider or something..

alright i downloaded the worm blaster and am currently scanning my pc.

from the internet cable modem still same crap.... when the download size is big, then internet will turn off for my computer not my sisters. Well does anyone have any ideas whats wrong.. is there any settings i could change or programs i could use, to fix this??

AHHHH this is anoying, i think you guys misunderstood me.......Well if i download a BIG file from the internet it will lose its connection....if i play certain online games it will lose its connection... thats my problem no virus spyware or nothing... i can download small files very fast with no problems too.
