I am new to this forum and I belong to several others i.e, Audio Karma, Vinylengine and the like. I enjoy messing with old electronics and computers. I have a problem with a Computer I built awhile back. Here it goes, I have an MSI Z77a chipset mb, 6 gigs of ram and an an intel i5 3570 cpu (3.40 ghz) This cpu has onboard gpu fyi. The problem is that if the computer is idle and goes into the screen saver after a short period of time it powers itself off. When I power it back on it boots up normally no start normally or safe mode messages. I have disabled the power setting to never turn off monitor or hardrive, still same problem. If computer if actively used no problems at all. I am thinking maybe a video issue. Also I am running 2 monitors one using the dvi and the other hdmi. I don't know if this is the problem..Any help would be appreciated...

If the system totally shuts off then you need to disable sleep mode in the power settings. Besides, when it's a sleep it's just a matter of pressing a key on the keyboard or moving the mouse and it will wake up.

I should have mentioned before that I have disabled the sleep option in the power settings. When I put the computer in sleep mode manually it will sleep as it should until I wake it. The problem is as I stated the computer will power itself down completely not sleep after a short period of time around 5-10 minutes. All power setting have been disabled i.e hardrive turn-off and monitor shut off. Still same problem. It isn't crashing just power itself down when I turn it back on it goes through normal boot/start up?????????

Then thats weird. A computer shouldn't be doing that unless it was overheating or a hardware issue but then when turning computer back on it would boot up asking to do a repair of the system. How are your system temps? Can you list your specific hardware parts?

The MB is a MSI ms-7752, it has a Z77a-g45 chipset. It has 6 gigs of ddr3 1333
memory, I'm not sure of the power supply, It has an intel i5-3570k cpu. I just awoke it and went into setup it said the cpu temp 48-50 C and MB is 15C.
Just another thing to throw into the mix. I am running Windows 8.1 after upgrading from Windows 8. I installed Windows 7 in another partition and on all three of these operating systems nothing changed it still powers itself off 5-10 minutes if not being used. I have watch movie after after movie on Netflix it never powered down once...????

I'm wondering if there is a specific bios setting causing this or possibly a program installed that may be automatically shutting it down? I would suggest checking event viewer to see if there any messages suggesting what is going on at those specific shutdowns.

Thanks every one who replied to by distress call. It was a setup/bios issue.
My ASUS board has a very elaborate bios/setup menu and a friend of mine told me to look at the power setting in bios. I had it set to normal and for the heck of it I changed it to ECO and it has been working just fine....
