Hello!

I just bought a seoncd hand computer and I am clueless about it i dont even know if i have a sound card at all (ya i know this is stupid). So I do not have any sound, but how do I figure out what i need to do to get some!?

thanx a lot to anyone whos willing to help!

check to see if theres and hole slots like the kind on cd players to plug in ear phones on the back of the computer.

Is the computer a "Brand Name" computer i.e. DELL, HP, COMPAQ, etc... if so please look for the model number/name then post it here. If not, do you know of any details/information about the computer from when you bought it?

The picture below is of a sound card(normaly you would only see the lower left edge if it is in your computer). On the lower left edge of it you can see 3 connectors that are Pink, Blue, Green.
Pink= Microphone socket
Blue= Line-In Socket
Green= Speakers socket

Look on the back of your computer for some connectors that are similur to these.
Note: Some computers will only have 1 or 2 of these sockets and they may be all black.
Connect your speakers to the green socket, or black if there is no green. Then turn your speaker power on. :)

ok so i do have a sound card! good news :)

Now, I have not bought speakers yet, but I thought the computer should make some kind of sound anyway?

thanks a lot for your help!!! :P

Well, in some certain circumstances the BIOS and modem will make some noise but nothing to serenade you with... :) I fyou want to listen to music or some real sound, you will have to get speakers. About $20 - $30 should get you a decent pair of speakers if you just want it to be there, and don't really care too much about the quality of the sound...

ya im definitly going to get some speakers but i just wanted to make sure that there is no problem with the sound card first. In fact, when i go to "system speaker properties" it tells me no drivers are installed for this device. Does that simply mean i havent installed speakers yet?
Thank you all i really appreciate it!

- Does it have a question mark or exclimation mark next to it in Device manager?
- Do you have a set of earphones from a walkman, discman, stereo etc... If you do then you can plug these into the sound card to test it in the mean time untill you get the speakers.
- Have you tried the "update driver" button under it's property window?
- Do you know any details yet about your PC or its parts... i.e. Brand, model etc

Yes
