I just reformatted and installed a fresh new copy of windows xp on this computer. Before i do any updates etc.. I'll need to connect to the internet first. I installed the drivers for my wireless network successfully.

The problem is...My network is WPA enabled. When i try to connect, it says i need to use a WEP key... ascii 11 or 13...hexadecimal 10 or 26...

How do i let my computer recognize WPA? or is there a way to convert the WPA code into WEP hex..

Help is very much appreciated

There should be a dropdown menu to tell it that it is secured with WPA. Otherwise, you can plug into the router, log into the router using IE, and change the wireless security to WEP.

I heard WEP isn't that secured and adequate for neighbors to connect to my network. Is there way to let it recognize WPA? Do i need a patch/software for it? If so, where would i get it?

Ah, the Sp1/Gold Edition wireless utility is USELESS.

Can you connect directly to the router to download the updates? It will make your life easier.

I was surfing microsoft and found a patch for SP1 to enable WPA. I used a memory stick to xfer the file.

I'm connected with an excellent signal strength.

I gladly appreciate your help, thanks for filling my holes! :)
