Help with my wireless internet

Hi guys,

I am new to this site so i am sorry if i have done anything wrong already or posted this in the wrong place!

I know that people on my street are on my wifi which is causing it to go really slow - however i have 2wireless networks at home.

One of them is WEP protected to minimise people on the network which the family use to browse the web, however the other one is not encrypted and i can't encrypt it for the time being.

The second network is going to be used to power CCTV cameras and the music/TV's throughout the house - but i have been told not to encrypt it yet as once all the cameras/tvs etc are linked it will all be encrypted very securely.

However my problem is that i know that people are on my second wireless network at the moment using up all of the bandwidth as the internet which comes through the TV has gone very slow and when i connect my laptop to it the speeds are very low.

I am using the same internet provider/connection etc so i know it is not that which is causing the problem.

I was wondering as i was connected to the wireless network and because i am the admin on the account is it possible to view who is on the network at this particular time? And if so - would i be able to connect to there PC/Laptop remotely to see what websites they have been on?

This is because i am a little worried about what websites are being viewed as i don't want to get any virus or cause the internet speed to be any slower!

Thanks for your time!

Yes you can see who is on your connection at any time by typing in 192.168.1.1 in the url bar, and entering the admin/password for your modem. As far as seeing what sites there on, you can't do that, but your not going to get a virus on your computer from them viewing anything. You should however be able to block them from connecting via the control panel, most modem software allows this.

And if you don't know the admin/password login info, try admin and password, otherwise a quick google search should lead you to the answer.

Frankly, I'd shut off that unsecured wireless until your cameras and whatnot are secured. You are just asking for trouble allowing anyone and everyone access to your home network and modem.

Whoever is installing your security system should never have set you up like that.
