Help with laptop

So my grandparents have this cheapo laptop running windows 8.1, and they tell me they got a message asking to update to windows 10. They click ok and it starts updating, but then what my Grandmother tells me is they decide against it, so they unplug the mother effer in the middle of the installation! So now things are all screwed up, and they drop the thing off at my doorstep. It wont even boot into windows 8/ windows 10, i have no idea whats on it at this point. I get a recovery screen saying 'your PC/Device needs to be repaired' and it says the Boot Configuration Data file is missing required information. Error code is 0xc000000d. The really big problem is, this laptop does not have a cd drive, and I do not have any repair discs. Any ideas?

Is there a repair partition on the hard disk? Usually those contain recovery images

Its an Acer S3 series. Model number is MS2346. Its just a Walmart cheapo internet machine basically. It doesn't even have a disc drive. I'm almost considering just throwing Ubuntu on it and saying have at it.

It wont do anything. All I can do is enter the bios setup. It shows the acer screen and immediately shows the recovery screen. I even hit Alt-F10 to try to access the recovery mode and I cant even get to that.

If you can't access recovery then you will need to contact Acer for recovery media on a usb drive.

Ok ill look into that thanks. If they turned the power off in the middle of a Windows 10 installation you think that might be corrupted beyond recovery?
