Help Please! :( WEIRD PROBLEM!

Hi,

Okay, this has totally baffled me (and pissed me off A LOT)

Basically, my speakers have stopped working.

They're plugged into the normal output socket that they always have been.

I thought this may be a driver issue, so I reinstalled them - nothing.

When I plug my headphones into the front panel the Realtek Manager comes up saying that I've just conneced headphones - normal.

But then the speakers work!

So they only work when my headphones are plugged into the front!

As soon as I unplug my headphones, the speakers stop working!

I really can't think of anything I haven't already tried.

I've tried system restore - nothing

The only thing I haven't tried is clean reinstall, which I don't really want to do!

Please help!

Thanks

I would say try disabling the Realtek software. You don't really need it for anything, and an error in the program might be causing your issue.

Uninstall the program, use Driver Cleaner Pro to clear all instances of the drivers. then download them again and don't install the realtek program, only the drivers.

I've reformatted my whole computer....and still nothing. All drivers are up to date. I've got the speakers plugged into the green socket on the back of the comp.

If I click start>control panel<hardware and sound>sound. It says there's no speakers attached, but when I plug my headphones in, it says speakers are attached, and then'the speakers work! It's really bugging me, because it's like my sound card is messed up, but when the headphone are in, it still works, so....surely it's not fried!?

This is SO weird!

Well, if you've done that and the exact problem still persists it pretty much rules out any sort of hardware issue. Double check and make sure that all of the front panel cables are hooked up to the correct position on the motherboard.

Okay, I changed the cable from the case to the AC97 connector instead of the HDA (high Definition Audio) and now my sound works....so I guess it's a problem with the cable rather than software of any kind. Oh well. It works now, I'm happy!
