Help Me Speed Up My Laptop!

OK, I'm sure someone is going shot "USE THE SEARCH BOX" lol, but things change, so I want to get the latest info.

What software programs should I use?

Are there any start-up programs I should disable?

Any processes I should run?

So far, I've ran Ccleaner several times, emptied my "trash," and....that's it.

I plant on running defragmentation on my harddrive as well.

I dowloaded PC Decrapifier, but didn't think it showed a lot of programs to uninstall (many were useful) so I deleted it and did not use it.

I've heard of Advanced System Care Free as well as Soluto. However, some say that Ccleaner is just as good and ASC and Soluto isn't that great (resource hog, difficult to uninstall), so I'm still on the fence with these.

Any recommendations for decreasing start-up time and increasing performance are greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

Maybe use hijack this to get an uninstall list and JohnB could chime in to let you know what was safe to uninstall.

Best setup of programs that I use is this. I like low resource programs that do the job but don't slow me down. Avast and others scan to much and slow everything down but they have better security (which most don't need)

Auslogics Defrag
Maleware Bytes
Spybot
AVG Free (Anti-Virus)
Commodo Firewall

All the programs above are 100% free and work great for that price. Far as disabling of programs or speeding up your OS I would look at Blackviper's site located here - http://www.blackviper.com.
Find your operating system and it will show what EACH service does and it has a "recommended" guide for disabling. Long as you can read and understand basic English you wont have any problems with speeding up your OS.

also google it "how to speed up ABC" where ABC is your operating system.

i would suggest (and i would cause many of them even i don't understand) doing entire restore. back up your data and do it cause many times no matter how hard you try something is left in the PC and it slows it down.

If you had a windows disk you could back up your data and reformat the hard drive and reinstall windows. That would get rid of all the junk you don't need. Also how much ram do you have?
