Help me secure my network, someone keeps getting on it.

Hi,

This is making me mad. I'm trying to download something off of Microsofts website and I'm getting 40KBps, with an 'Excellent' signal strength. I'm 99.99999% sure someones on my network because I'll cancel the download, change my WEP key, and start the download again and be blazing at 130~KBPS. However in about 30 seconds it will suddenly dip down to 40kbps again. What gives?? How do I secure my network??

enable mac address filtering, and only allow the mac address of your pc. then disable the ssid broadcast. Still keep the wep key in place.

go into your router and look for attached devices, and then you can tell if you have another user.

if you do see another user change your wep key and set up access control and only allow your pcs to connect

p.s your internet speed is not changed when you get higher wireless reception or a normal one , as your internet is slower than your wireless connection speed and is permanantly limited to your speed, otherwise everyone in the would would have very fast internet (10GB/s in my case lol)
