Help me please

Hey,

I'm having some problems with one of my computers on my network.

I have 3 computers, all running XP Pro sp2. One of them acts as the internet Gateway. But one of the computers is having trouble accessing the internet. It will be able to use it for about 3 minutes, and then it'll 'conk out'. I tried installing TCP/IP, but it still won't work. I can still share files and stuff.

This is really irritating me, and it'd be good if i could get some help on this.

What type of internet connection are you using?? Dial up, Broadband??

Also what device do you have? ADSL router? Switch??? Normal Switch???

In other words, give some more details about your network configuration in order for anyone here to be able to help better.

If it is just one PC having this problem then the internet connection is irrelevant. I would recommend buying a Cable/DSL router. The wired ones these days are only like $30. And I cannot stress how much time this will save you. Plus the ease of use can't beat it. ICS or setting one PC to be the gateway is just an all around unstable solution.

I'm using a normal switch. I discovered that I can use windows messenger on that computer though... so maybe the problem is the port configuration?

Yea if messenger is working then that means you have connectivity. Try re-installing AVG re-download the .exe. This will set it to defaults. Once this is done try updating without messing with the settings. That program should work without changing settings. I'm telling you though save yourself tons of time and buy a cable/dsl router.
