are you using a HUB? a router? and what type of cable are you using? im not 100% but i dont think crossover cables connect to hubs, try a straight through cable to connect to a HUB or router.
try this: start>network connections>view network connections>right click ethernet and click properties> scroll down to internet protocol TCP/IP, click once and click 'settings'.
now the IP should be set to 'obtain IP automatically'
if not, check it and try it.
if it is already, click 'use the following IP' and type something like:
192.168.0.2
make sure you click on the box below to auto assign the box before you click OK
the reason it might not be connecting is because of an IP conflict. if this doesnt work, a simple right click on shortcut and clicking repair may work

if that doesnt work, you can buy PCI ethernet cards for about £10
let me know how you get on

hi mate thanks for your help, unfortunatley it didnt work. im using a router and staright through cable and have 2 other computers that work fine on the router. i am going to take the motherboard back tommorow and see what they say as really it should work without me buying a new card because its brand new.

Thanks anyway appriciated!
