Help for a buddy

i looked at that camera then decided it was too expensive and i found something that can do basically the exact same thing for a load cheaper with a few lens adapters that are pretty cheap $40 - $100. Its the Canon powershot S3 IS. $300 on newegg
 
I reckon you could get something cheaper with better quality then $600 seeing it's only 6 Mp...

that mega pixel is not a problem unless you want to go above A3 size prints
its the lens that counts for the picture quality at that level.
Does that Nikon have changeable lenses cause i know that the power shot doesn't and that might be were the price discrepancy comes from
