Post your make/model - you likely need a driver for your NIC - what happens when you have the cord plugged in and you go to Start-->Run-->Type 'cmd' , <enter> and then type 'ipconfig' at the command prompt? Can you 'ping google.com'?

Do you have any yellow '!' or red 'x' in Start-->Control Panel-->System-->Hardware tab-->Device Manager???

Yes you need a driver to get it working go to the manufactures website and get it and either download it on a another comp and burn it to a cd or transfer it to a USB drive then install it on your comp and then you should be able to get onto the internet.

Is your ethernet card from hp or is it from a different manufacture that may be why you cant find it.

Look down under Original Drivers. Listed as Fall 2006 Original Intel LAN Driver

just installed it. restarted the comp and now im getting local are connection in the bottom right, it says limited or no connectivity. I tried to disable it and then enable it, I also tried to "repair" it but it still didnt work. should I turn off my PC and then also turn off my modem? (power cycle)?

w00t!~!!!! just got the internet! thankss guys.

another quick question now what other things have to be installed besides ".net framework" and service pack 3, and graphics card driver. ALso i heard about this program called PC Doctor that searches your computer for all the drivers that you need and then searches the internet and downloads them. is that a good program? anyone know any others??

Install all the drivers in the device manager that have the yellow ! by it then you should be good to go.

k what about .net framework? which one should i get? ( right now I have windows service pack 2.) so does that mean i should get .net framework 3.5 ? or should i download service pack 3 and get a different .net framework? or does the framework not depend on what service pack im running
