headset jack

Hey all, I have a headset thats from the UK I guess. The connector has a plug that kind of looks as the ones for the keyboard and mouse, a cylinder with pins. This one has 9 pins in it. 2, then 4, then 3. It's suppose to connect into this converter that then has 3 sound plugs coming out of it, left, right, center - regular 3.55 mm jacks.

Anywhere of getting this converter or an adapter? I hope someone understands what I have.

Thanks.

I didn't have a clue what you had for a while, I had never come across this myself, but I can tell you it's not standard to the UK, we have the same connections as you do. Anyway, I went on a google hunt.

I found this product, which is kind of what you're after, except it's in the UK, and I think you need a female 9-pin din rather than a male one (is that right?). Videk do ship abroad, so I guess in theory you could buy from them. Then all you'd need is a female-to-female extension cable (assuming your headset is a male connection).

I'll do a bit more searching, I'm sure it must exist, I guess all I can say is where the hell did you get it from??? :)

Well I'm glad you found something, because I have been googling for quite a while to no avail. Do you know what the official name for that type of connector is? Because mini-din is what 9-pin serial ports are called also....

All I got was that is was a 9-pin MINI DIN as well, but strangely I was getting a load of stuff converting it to S-Video, so I'm not sure. It's all very weird, it's like he didn't get it from US or the UK, but Solvenia or something... :P

Sorry for the troubles, you've gotten a billion times more sucess than me on this search. Yes, I do need the female one, if you enlarge the picture of that 9pin to 3 x 3.55 mines looks just like that with the pins coming out inside. I thought it was from the UK.... guess not.

I'm still searching, don't worry, it's no trouble - I like a challenge. Have you thought at all that by the time you've bought all of the cables, extensions, conversions etc. it may be cheaper and easier to buy another headset?

I've got the headset and the cables, I just need the converter/adapter, because ive got 3 x 3.55 on each side, I need a small female with 3 x 3.55

I'm afraid not, the female to female extension cable for that splitter is still eluding me, I can't find it anywhere.

I do think you might have to consider getting a new headset with a more 'conventional' connection, although I generally don't like recommending sidestepping issues.

isnt it a female to male?

anyhow thanks for trying, you did alot better than me. its a really nice headset so I figured I would try to salvage it. 5.1 surround with built in mic gone to waste.

Well that cable I found has the correct 3-split audio jacks, but a male end. You want a female one. So what I was looking for was a female-to-female extension. Then one end of the female would fit into the splitter cable, and the other end would fit into your male heaset connection. That was my thinking.

But yes I think it'll be almost impossible to find the right extension. I guess in theory you could sell the headset on eBay, so long as you specify exactly what connection it is. Then it's someone else's issue to deal with. I'm not sure about the morality of doing that, but still, it's an option.

You're welcome anyway, sorry I couldn't be more help.

lol I wouldn't do that.. anyhow I found some out put box that had the female end, but the guy said it requires power to start, it says DC 7.5V on it, I think I need a power cord with that connection.

Also has the 3.5 jacks in the back, 3 say 5.1 ch audio input, and other 3 say 5.1 ch audio output. from left to right,

5.1 ch audio input 5.1 ch audio output
sub/cent rear front sub/cent rear front

CmoAMD, did you buy all this stuff new? How old is it? And where'd you get it? IF there's a manual, is there any mention of this adapter being included, or orderable from somewhere? Somehow I doubt that even RatShack would have an adapter... and they have nearly everything in the adapter department.
This sounds like custom/proprietary stuff to me... meaning you could only get it from the manufacturer.

Adding to OvenMaster's last post, I would have thought the first thing to ask is what the make and/or model of the headphones are. Should be something on them.

If it is speedlink, then try speed-link.com, multimedia link, bottom of page. Anything like what you have? If it is, there is no wiring info.

If you click on Support/Download/"Kopfhoerer & Headsets" you will see a bunch of headphones. Can you identify your headset? Manuals in German.

Added later: Got pdf for Medusa SL-8750. Fits your description to a tee even if it's not what you have. Amp box requires 7.5vdc. Headphones connected to amp box with mini din to stereo jack cord supplied with headphones. Other cords supplied to connect amp box to pc or audio system.
