Headphones gone bad??

Ever since I got these headphones: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...cm_re=creative_headset-_-26-158-082-_-Product they've been randomly making this skipping sound somewhere between a low chirping and a shivering sound. I use WinAmp for listening to music, but it does it in games, on YouTube, etc... It could be flawless music for a minute or just 10 seconds before it starts skipping. I have updated drivers and I've checked the connections/swapped into the front ports and there's no difference. Anyone else have this problem with a headset?

I think I have a similar issue sometimes. But its not the headset, rather the jack. Try fiddleing with the cord (the part which is real close to the 35.mm jack, on the headset) and see if that helps. That works for me.

Actually, y'know what? Just now I've noticed that whenever the sound skips, movement of my mouse skips, and my keyboard typing skips. So, for example, I could be listening to a song and writing a document when all of a sudden the sound will chirp and the letters I just typed will take a second to appear/not appear at all. I have somewhat cheap memory: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...cm_re=g_skill_4gb_ddr2-_-20-231-166-_-Product ... maybe that's the problem? I was planning on adding 4gb of a higher quality memory after my next build is completed...

NVM, find out that the mouse skipping and the sound skipping aren't happening at the same time. What's CCleaner?

And I use the motherboard's onboard sound.

EDIT: Used CCleaner... no need for an explanation on it. The mouse skipping and typing skipping are still issues, but now the sound skip has turned from that low chirping to just a slight stutter so instead of: Normal song... *chirp**chirp*chirp*...Normal song, it goes Normal song... nothing... Normal song. I've noticed that the skips are more frequent when the song picks up after a quieter section.

Double EDIT: WOW! Nevermind about the previous edit, it seems everything is getting worse. Maybe it's because the internet I'm getting wirelessly is in the basement and I'm on the top floor?

Okay, so the little skips frequency changes a lot, but it never gets to the point where it's not noticeable. After a lot of mouse waving and music-listening, I've concluded the two are connected, but I don't know what the problem is.

EDIT: Could this be a result of a dying hard drive? My first one died within a week, I RMA'd it and got this one (same as sig). I don't notice it with my headphones on, but something makes a rapid ticking noise that is usually silenced by a quick rap to the side of the case. It can get loud, but once I rap it the right way, it stops making any noise whatsoever.

try the headphones on a different computer. if they still skip, then its the headphones.

I haven't done the headphone test yet, because I haven't found any sound piece to test them with... but let me ask this: Would internet connection have anything to do with this? I use a wireless adapter for my internet and it gets like 2-3 bars normally :/

Yes, I can put it in any computer, but I'm wondering what sort of test I should do. Like a song, game, video? All three?

Also, the ticking noise: One of my 120mm fans was vibrating... for some reason the rubber grommets aren't doing what they're designed to :/

test it with anything that makes the skipping on you computer on another computer

if you are streaming the music from another computer, your network could be a problem. Otherwise, it wouldnt have anything to do with your internet.

Not the headphones... just got a Logitech X-540 5.1Sound System and they skip too. Skipping seems really common when my AVG is running scans. Could it be some sort of computer activity that's causing the problem?

I know I keep bringing this thread back, but it keeps coming back up. What do you guys think could be the problem? I've MemTested... that came up okay. Like I said before, it starts when I get a little bit more system usage percentage than usual and it skips sound and makes the mouse skip, so I'm thinking it's not the speakers or sound output (onboard sound)

So all in all:

Symptons:
Skipping mouse
Skipping sound

Ruled out possibilities:
Memory (passed memtest)
Headphones/Speakers/Sound output (because of the mouse skips)
Heat problems (everything's normal)

Possible reasons that seem plausible to me:
Internet (DSL diluted through wi-fi)
Hard Drive (though, I RMA'd the last one)
Bad CPU? (I've been trying some overclocking, and everything seems stable and cool, but I get a sudden BSOD out of nowhere)

What process's are running & what Services? You may of installed something on your computer which could be making you lag possibilty of a virus? Let's not say that word to early though. Have a look and post what you don't recognise! :)

At the time of the test, CPU usage ranges like 0-3%, memory usage is about 1.25GB
Funny... on the CPU usage history, there are 4 graphs. If those each represent one core, then two of them aren't doing anything!

Are my F@H settings wrong?

Advanced:

Core Priority : Lowest Possible (recommended)
CPU Usage Percent : Highest choice (is this wrong?)
Checkpointing frequency: 15 minutes
Machine ID: 2
Everything else is blank.
