hey all,

currently i use my 5970's hdmi out to my receiver and 7.1 home theater setup. will there be a noticeable difference in sound quality if I buy a nice dedicated sound card? has anyone tested this before? I just dont want to shell out 200$ for a dedicated card and then find out it sounds the same as my hdmi out lol

thanks for the help!

The sound from the video cards HDMI out sounds better on my computer then the sound card, and can't beat the loss of the cable clutter.

HDMI cable is only a means of sending video/audio signal, so it really depends on the quality of the onboard sound card you are using....
Most modern motherboards sound card chips are just as good as the average dedicated sound cards.
A high end sound card should produce better results but then again it depends on what type of quality sound equipment you are going to hook it up with.
