HDMI Audio Question (Asus M3N78)

Hi,

I'm running an Asus M3N78-EMH HDMI, and I'm totally ignorant when it comes to HDMI sound.

What is the HDMI sound port for? Is it to receive audio input from another device or is it to use instead of the audio jacks?

I'm using a 2.1 speaker system and a Medusa 5.1 headset, neither of which seem to be anything to do with HDMI.

Any advice would be appreciated,
Thanks

Dont know what you mean by HDMI sound port. It has a HDMI port that you use with a monitor that has a HDMI port. HDMI just transports Video and sound.

hdmi carries both sound and video and is used for example with my ps3 so i only have to use i lead not two
with computers unles you have a gpu capable of outputting sound all it will do is transfer video and by the sounds of it your monitor doesnt have speakers, you would need to hook up a separate lead to out put sound.
not sure what you mean by hdmi sound port if it looks like this its just a standard hdmi port

It's mostly for tvs. I use it with mine. My surround system only has one digital in (optical) and so my tv gets the sound and sends it to the receiver. Even if the sound system had multiple digital inputs, it would be one more thing you have to switch over when changing between xbox and pc, etc.

Yeh that's it.

In that case then, I'll stick with how I've got my system set up - audio jacks from the motherboard to the Medusa 5.1 amp, then into both the speakers and the headset.

Thanks for clearing that up for me guys.
