Having wireless connection issues? serious problem

I hope you guys can solve this. I've been having connection issues for the past year with a cheap crappy asus router that gave us many horrendous problems. I decided to buy a good expensive router and got the Linksys WRT54GL. Hooked it up and it was a dream come true, all 3 wireless computers were connected to this new wireless with not a single problem for about 3 weeks. We could download fast and can actually stay connected for a day or longer. However, after those 3 weeks, it happened...Suddenly i get disconnected randomly, day and night, and this has been happening a lot lately. Sometimes i cannot even connect back to the wireless, it would say cannot connect to wireless. This problem has been getting worse, and this problem happens to all 3 laptops. it's really stressing us out to a degree where i might smash the thing(Sorry just stressed out with wireless devices) This problem is really weird, sometimes all 3 of us would get disconnected at the same time and cannot connect, sometimes 1-2 can connect, and 3rd cannot, and this rotates a lot. but mainly, we all get disconnected at the same time and cannot connect. we would have to wait 1min to hours to connect again, it would connect on its own. We tried resetting the router many times and tried other numerous little things, for example, moving laptops to different areas, i even moved my laptop close to the wireless router and still got that problem! sometimes our connection would be so laggy, i would be downloading programs at 25kbs when the modem can go up to a maximum of 2mbps, and i would test downloading many stuff, they are all the same or similar speed. 15-40kbps!

So a couple days ago i borrowed a friend's laptop, connected to the wireless without any problems, and for that couple days the laptop didnt have a SINGLE disconnect!! The laptop downloaded at lightning speed which my modem should be capable of going that fast. This does not make sense at all! I tried downloading the same file from the same link on both his laptop and my laptop and his dl goes 1MBPS, and mine stays at 25kbps!!? sorry, this does not make sense. Both laptops were right next to eachother, and i downloaded the same file from the same link from both laptops and my laptop goes 25kbps while my friend's goes 1mbps...
Also, we've tried powering 1 laptop on and the other 2 off and rotated, and we still get the same thing, disconnects and lagggy speed. i am lagging right now atm, i cant even google as im on my own laptop, but my friend's works fine, i'm also on that one, they are both right next to eachother

Some information about the laptops:
My friend's laptop, 2008 asus model M50s, M50sv-A1 with windows vista
laptop 1, 2009 HP Pavilion dv5-1002nr with windows vista
laptop 2, 2006 toshiba sattelite a100 0FH, model number: PSAA8C-0FH-00E with Windows XP
Desktop computer(this is not a laptop but i named it as laptop 3), custom built 2005, with an asus wireless adapter Asus wireless lan pci adapter, WL-138G, with Windows XP

All computers are up to date with their windows updates, have avg or avast, have malwarebytes, also spybot. and i additionally have zonealarm firewall.

computerforum has never let me down, i hope you guys can help me solve this problem. my mind is about to explode, heh.

sounds like maybe a problem with the modem if all three drop at the same time also for the sake of pinpointing the problem can keep one of the computers pluged into ethernet and see if it also drops when wireless does

hey, thanks for your help. yes i've tried connecting directly to the modem and router with an ethernet, and there are no problems at all. no disconnects or lag. we also have an xbox360 connected through ethernet, and it works good. however, something did happen with the xbox360 recently. The uPnP was enabled to allow the xbox 360 to join other parties in a lobby, this was enabled when i got the router. and i had no problems, but a few days ago i was restricted again and could not join other parties, it said i had to enable something about a NAT. well i checked the upnp option again and it was still enabled, and i haven't changed the router settings since i first got it, so that's weird. i had to enable DMZ for the xbox ip address in order to join parties again, and this change was made about 3 days ago. but my main problem has been happening for a week now, and it's getting worse. right now my connection is good, which is rare, but soon it's going to dc again

Using WPA-psk right now

For the firewall i have the options checked:

-block anonymous internet requests
-filter multicast
-filter IDENT(port113)

For VPN:
IPSec Passthrough enabled
PPTP Passthrough enabled
L2TP Passthrough enabled

so you know how to use the online utility for linksys

i know how to enter setup for the wireless online, but i dont know much about those security options listed, it's the default settings

those all look good on the setup tab look down about the middle of the page for client lease time should be 0

is the modem and router placed near a wireless phone, microwave also is therer anyone near you with a wifi connection they maybe on the same channel causing some conflicts between the two networks

the router is not near a wireless phone or a microwave.

i've tried channel 1, 6, and 11 before and i still get the same problems, i guess i should try more channels.

yes, there's about 4-5+ other wireless networks in this area. I will try different channels. but so far, i haven't disconnected yet surprisingly

looks like it says version 1.1 , i need to get the newer version. thanks for spending your time helping me, i really appreciate it. i'll see how it goes with the latest updated driver :)

hardware version 1.1 is currently using Ver. 4.30.14 so which ever hardware version you have you need an update on the firmware

make sure you read the installation instructions if you have never done this before and back up your old version first before the upgrade

if you need any help i wont be on till tomorrow but somebody else should be able to help with it.

Good luck
