Use avast and malwarebytes to scan for infections.

Ccleaner to clean out junk files etc, defraggler to defragment your hard drive, but if you have one you do not defrag an ssd drive.

I have never used defraggler, what is the difference between the standard MS defrag/optimize tool and the defraggler?

Well apart from windows itself and office most microsoft software is pretty poor, just look at the articles on security essentials, windows media centre was pretty poor hence why it was dropped.
When i first got into computers i used ms built in defrag and found it very basic and doing a full defrag took forever.
I use defraggler and in past iobit smart defrag which is also really good, both defrag much quicker than ms and have features like boot defrag etc and the gui is much nicer and displays more information.
I have seen a few people on here recommend auslogics defrag, I have never used it myself but if others on here recommend it, it maybe worth trying also.

I would say go w/defraggler when you choose to defrag.
Avast works great and so does Malwarebytes. (when needing to clean up your PC)

Then you really need to wipe it and do a clean I stall of the operating system. That way they are getting a clean OS.

DBAN or Ccleaner could wipe the drive.

I've only used the DOS version, but there's a Windows version too.
