Hard Drive Cleaning

I about 6 months ago a got my laptop from a friend but never got all the disks that it came with. Well we moved and he moved so no chance of getting it because he said he might of thrown them away. Well I wanted to wipe the hard drive and start fresh. In order to do that do I need any of the disks. I noticed that the hard drive has a separate partition for recovery. I also have a copy of windows xp from when I had another computer. What do I need to get and how do I properly do the re-formating and re-install of windows without problems?

when you boot from the windows install disk, it will give you the option to format disk during the setup. Opt to format the disk also select to delete partitions. Then reboot from windows disk and install the OS.
