Hey Hey.

OK Basically one day after i last went on my pc, i were greeted by a big black screen and some grey text saying.

"Hal.dll is missing or corrupt'' I also used to get a invaild boot.ini but i have fixed that now.

after replacing the hal.dll with a service pack 3 hal.dll i manged to get to the xp logo and the loading bar. [thats just after decided to boot that installation up] However after the XP logo and the loading bar i get a big black screen and nothing...... the only thing i can do at that point is to turn the PC off and try again.

Does anyone know what i habe to do?

reformatting IS NOT AN OPTION!!

Thanks for reading. :)

Ok how do i repair it [sorry for being a complete nOob.]

nah it is cool, we have a lot on the forum :P

Well insert the XP disc, and run it like you were formatting, now it will ask you what you want to do, and you select Repair and then it repairs windows and then reboots and then the job is done.

Hopefully this fixes the problem.

It doest give the option to repair, i do have more than 1 instalation of windows on my root drive [C:\] one is my old instlation [the one im trying to fix, which is in the windows folder] And a second inst. to whichj i use to get on the pc [to check emails broswer files and other.]

Do you think that the 2 inst. are confusing the repiar thingy? also my repiar disc i downloaded from the net. i did get one but god only knows where that is lol.

Thanks Bye.
