So Hotmail now has a new password system, When changing your password it gives you a rating, weak, medium, or STRONG. I made a 'strong' password from random letters, numbers and other characters such as #;[{*£$ and etc.
I copied the password into the clipboard, I was going to save it into a txt file until I could remember it. But I was also browsing some other sites, So I thought OK I'll do it in a sec.
And I accidentally copied something else, erasing the password from the clipboard, now thats probably my fault, But I just assumed I'd easily reset my password by answering my security question.
So 30 minutes ago, I go to log into my account, I choose forgot password, enter in my usual email address. And expected to see an option to reset my password by answering my security question... NOPE. Because my password was strong, they wouldnt allow me to reset it by answering my security question. So I'm left with one option, Which is to choose to have instructions sent to my alternate email address on how to reset my password. However, I never entered an alternate email address because I was never asked. So now I'm permanently locked out of my account because of Hotmail's STUPID ASS PIECE OF SHIT NEW SECURITY SYSTEM.
Well Done Microsoft, Well done. And thanks for making sure I knew that having a strong password would disable the password reset by security question option. Thanks a lot
Ive had that email address for THREE years. :(

well that does seem a human error rather than microsofts fault. the point of a strong security password, is to be strong. thats why it takes a different route to reset it. and if it were simple enough to reset it by answering a security question, i could get access to most of my friends hotmail accounts

I agree, but I wasn't warned that having a strong password would disable that option. Infact, having a strong password made me have no way to get into my account if I forgot my password, And they also recommended that I use a strong password.
This was so unexpected.
I need to get into my email.
They did NOT warn me that having a strong password would disable that option. So it is still partly their fault.

Well it used to be that I'd only have to answer a security question if I forgot my password. But now I've learnt that ONLY if you have a weak-medium password. Wheres the logic in that
I just wish they would have warned that I wouldnt have access to that option, If they did, I would have made sure I saved the password.

how long ago was this? was it just now, is your browser still open (same browser session you used to change your password)? or did you close your browser already?

Ive contacted microsoft via an online form but I doubt I'm going to get any help or ever get access to my account unless they change the security system. I mean they've only recently changed it, And I'm sure there has a to be a bunch of other dumbasses who did the same thing I've done.

I agree, thats why I use GMAIL, also I think everyone should download firefox and thunderbird. Microsoft sucks balls when it comes to anything.

ill agree it doesnt make much sense, but thats microsoft for ya

microsoft just don't care and thats all i have to say.

oh, and, ummm..... I forgot what i was going to say.
oh wait, its on the line above.
hehe.

Why would you make a strong password (implying that you know what you're doing) and then forget it? (let alone copy-paste it to start with ... thus defeating the point of a strong password...)

I was going to paste it into a txt file or write it down until I had it remembered. I would have though that if I lost it I could easily reset it via my security question. The password change thing made it seem like I was stupid to not have a strong password. They could have warned me that having a strong password would disable the password reset via security question option and made sure that I had a different email for emailing a password reset instructions too.

well, tough luck dude
but thats how the cookie crumbles.
il suggest u use gmail in the future, its way better than hotmail, including its spam filter

so you blame microsoft for your own mistake... sorry to say it mate but i dont see how microsoft soft can be blamed for that :)

Some people blame microsoft for everything.

My morning shit hurt today, I blame microsoft.
Hehe some people arent enlightened nor mature enough to see outside of the box quite yet ;)

OMGGG the same thing happened to me in neopets!

but...i did enter an email, and it said my pass was "C:/Borland/BCC55", with that capitilization, and ive tried every variation with/without caps/slashes/numbers/colons, nothing works. ive emailed them and they dont reply. it makes me mad. cause they tell me my pass, but it wont work. gahh.
