Graphics Aperture Size Setting in the BIOS

I have an ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe motherboard.

I just purchased a new video card; PNY AGP 512mb GeForce 7600GS.

I went into the BIOS and at the; graphics aperture size edit, it showed 256mb. I tried to edit this to 512mb and it does not have a 512mb option to select.

I installed this card yesterday and since that time, while on the internet (I don't think that being on the internet has anything with it), my computer froze. I had to use the 'reset' button to get the computer out of the situation. This then happened a second time.

I was wondering if the fact that I cannot change the BIOS setting to 512mb has anything to my situation?

Any response would be appreciated.

the aperture size and the graphics card onboard memory are not the same thing. Aperture size is the amount of system ram you want to provide the gpu, the gpu will only use this after it has used all its own ram. Leave it at 256mb that is fine, and you will see no performance increase by moving to 512mb
 
Not on a card with that much onboard RAM. Even with a 128MB card the effects of setting the aperture size aren't anything to write home about.
 
Thanks everybody for the comments.

I did some searching around and found a posting, somewhere, that talked about this video card overheating.

I took it back to the store and exchanged it for the exact same PNY card.

It's been about three days now, and no lockups.

I do see some vertical text/graphic streaking at some sites, maybe one or two sites, and experience a two-three second delay before everything is shown correctly.

I will be experimenting around with drivers to see if this will change what I am seeing.
