As far as I know, the good brands for music intended soundcard is ONKYO. Well you might heard this brand from a magazine such as What Hi-Fi, Audio Video, or other home theather magz considering that this brand actually play in receiver, amplifier and other hi-end home theather market.

It have several soundcard model, and the cheapest one (and currently became a favorite music soundcard with great price to performance ratio) is the onkyo SE-90. It cost about less than $90 and provide such an improvement from your onboard sound chip. It's quite hard to find though because ONKYO didn't sell this product outside Japan :(

Except that one became an informal distributor that order this product directly from Japan and sell them when they arrive in his/her country. I get my SE-200 LTD by contacting such a person ;)
