Gigabyte RMA process

So I've got a GA-x58A-UD3R that's being flakey. The board will randomly lock up on POST. When it would POST, Windows usually wouldn't fully load. Memtest would occasionally completely fail regardless how many sticks of RAM were installed. All hardware was tested and worked fine in another similar board (the new model with USB 3.0 and SATA6)

Since it's still under warranty, I sent it off to Gigabyte. My RMA got approved on 01/28 and arrived at their facility on 02/11. Just today (02/17) I get this email...

Dear Valued Customer,

We appreciate you being patient with us.

We have finished testing your GIGABYTE product(s) and it is (they are) being returned back to you.

How much would you like to bet it's the exact same, unrepaired board I sent off? I've read a couple stories about people getting multiple dead boards returned from gigabyte. I hope this doesn't turn into that kind of fiasco...

You should have written down/taken photos of the serial number and the board before sending it away. That way you can compare the boards' numbers.

My advice: If your returned board doesn't work, RMA it again, and buy a different board (ASRock X58's are nice)

If all else fails, ask gigabyte to send you a new board and not a refurbished one.

With all of my XFX RMA's they sent me brand new retail boxed products back. You should expect nothing less from an RMA IMHO

Maybe they fixed the problem, and are returning it to you now? I agree though, they should send replacements and not the same thing. Especially after waiting that long. I am trying to get my asus board rma'd, I hope it's an easy enough process.

Not something I would recommend under normal circumstances, but if they're going to screw around and send you the same board back, I would just make sure that it was completely dead before returning it a second time, if you know what I mean.

All I will say is they can not be worse than Asus. The amount of time it takes them to complete a simple RMA is just ridiculous, and that is if they send you the right thing out of the other end at all

Eek that's scary, I hope it won't be quite that bad. They say they send out advance replacements for rma's even before you send them your malfunctioned board though. Been trying to get through though for awhile and haven't had luck yet. That kind of deal does sound nice on paper, but I guess i'll be experiencing first hand how it goes- so far it's goin slow.

Hmm... Well I emailed them back and got the following reply.

Dear customer,

The motherboard was tested fine with no trouble found. Our engineers successfully install Windows and ran diagnostics tests with no issues with posting or memory failure. For further questions or troubleshooting contact us at 626-854-9338 option 4.

Thank you

I love how personal their emails are, and how they match up almost verbatim to responses I found online from people having problems with Gigabyte's RMA process.

I already have a temporary board to replace it, but I don't feel like tearing the darn thing down if I'm simply going to have to rebuild it again on my other board because the old board is still dead. Given their reputation I've been reading online, I suspect that is still the case...

My experience with Gigabyte has been a 50/50 thing. I've had to RMA 4 boards to them.

Two boards I got back where refurbished, the reason I say that is I knew they were not new boards. But both worked fine.

Two boards were the same ones I sent in. One still had the same problem. The other was fixed, but has other issues. Would constantly blue screen after Windows was installed.

So, in my opinion with Gigabyte. Your better off if you send them a dead/unfixable board. lol

I RMA'd my Asus 4870 three times and it was never completely fixed. I finally said screw it and bought a new one. I don't plan on buying a video card from ASUS again.
