Hey guys, I have 2 computer both with onboard gigabit LAN and I recently bought a gigabit Router/Switch. I already had a router at the time and was thinking about just getting a gigabit switch but the router sucked (old Linksys) and missed many of the great features of newer routers. So I just got a new gigabit router and its the D-Link Gamer Lounge (http://games.dlink.com/products/?pid=371). Everything is workin great and both computers are detecting 1 Gbps connections but file transferring is not as fast as I expected it to be. I transferred a 4 GB file and the networking tab of the Windows Task Manager showed an average of 18% network utilization, which translates to about 22.5 MB/s. I was expecting to max out the read/write performance of the hard drives which should be between 40-60 MB/s but I'm not getting anywhere close to that. The computers are right next to each other for now and all connected through cat5e Belkin cables. I know there are factors that limit the actual speed of a LAN but I expected closer to 40% Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks I really appreciate it.
Specs:
Computer #1
MSI K8T NEO mobo
AMD64 3200+
1GB Corsair memory
160GB WD HDD (ATA133)
MSI 6600GT gfx
Computer #2
Asus P4P800 mobo
INTEL P4 3.00Ghz
1GB Geil memory (should have gotten Corsair)
120GB WD HDD SATA
ATI Sapphire 9800 PRO
Both Windows XP Pro w/NTFS and drag and drop file transfer.
I also tried setting up an FTP with both computers and file transfer was still around 20 MB/s. Do you think it might be router settings because I doubt it?
