Getting the subwoofer to work properly

The subwoofer I have now is great, but it won't work properly in some games. Like Call of Duty 2 works great with it, but Source based games won't make the slightest noise/sound/vibration. But then I turned off the "Switch Center/Subwoofer Output", then it worked in CSS for example. But it worked as though it was the center subwoofer, which I don't want it to do. The center speaker should be using the left channel and the subwoofer the right channel, but since the subwoofer is the only speaker connected to the center/subwoofer output it uses the left or right, but only the "center speaker" works in CSS etc. So what should I do?

I was thinking if it was possible to split the stereo to 2 mono channels. Use one of them to the subwoofer, and connect a speaker to the other channel. Would this work?

yes you can use basic 1/8'' splitters to have two mono inputs.
