Getting Surround Sound

I have 4 speakers, 2 5inch and 2 10inch, connected to my computer. They all run to the power amp and there's just one like going from the amp to the back of the computer. My only problem is that they are all set to left speakers. When I change the balance to right in my volume controls, all the speakers turn all the way down. Anyone know how I can make these at least left and right speakers?

Could you please specify what type of amp? I have the same set-up as you pretty much (Sony Audio/Video Center AMP/Reciever with 5.1 surround sound capability) and it runs flawlessly with superb sound.

Sure, sorry, umm the amp is a Peavy M-3000 power amp, 300watts/2 ohms.
then two 10inch Kustom speakers and two 5inch Blackmaxx speakers. They all run into the amp and then out of the input in one line and that line goes to the back of my comp.

I'm willing to bet that your amp is a single channel amp, as it is a Peavey and a guitair amp. You are only getting left sound because you are only amplifying the left channel. You either need a 2 channel amp, or a second 1 channel amp to get 2 channel stereo sound.

Is there anyway to use the mono amp I already have to get two channels?
Maybe by using a mixer or something?

nope, not at all. You can use a mixer to combine the left and right channels into a single channel and run it through the amp. You will still get mono sound, but it will be both channels combined. There really is no way to split it back apart into stereo

Well darn. Thanks for the help, i guess i'll be forking out some more money for another amp. Thanks.
