Hey all, iv been thinking about going into IT. Iv been told the best way is to gain a CompTIA A+ qualification.

How do i got about doing this, and where in manchester actually does the course?

Is there any other ways to get into IT.

What sort of things should i be looking into.

Im interested in anything maintenance wise be it software or hardware.

Why don't do you try going into IT apprenticeships? They are really good if you're planning on doing a career in IT. This apprenticeship teaches you the oundation of IT and at the same time, you get paid!!

Iv got an interview one for tommorow :D hopefully it will go well.

Afte rthe apprenticeship can i go straight into work or straight onto a comp tia course?

I did the Zenos IT apprenticeship and got CompTIA A+ from it, but tbh getting a job in IT is bloody hard atm, its all about experience and if nobody gives you a job then how are you supposed to have experience? its a catch-22 situation. I recommend trying to get work experience at an office somewhere. Oh and expect to be working in a call centre for a few years before actually doing a job that involves IT :P

Ive been completely put off the IT industry, been unemployed for over a year now and its taking the piss, im looking into engineering and such at the moment though just because the IT jobs are impossible to get into.

Oh and I would recommend Zenos for giving you some skills in IT but they make false promises about getting you a job, which isnt true at all, and theres one in Manchester :)

Im going with the oldham college for the apprenticeship. God knows what ill do when its done, but im sick of sitting on my arse all day on JSA :P

Need something thats going to get me into work.

Even if its just doing this apprenticeship then going in a call centre.

Will it help me get a job though :D

Lmao, disregarding the troll. The interview for the apprenticeship was an absolute joke.

I got there and they said i could have an apprenticeship all day long.......if i was already working in the IT sector.

They kept me there for 2 hours only to tell me that if i was working it would be hunky dory, but because im not gtfo. SO now im sat here thinking if i was working in the it industry why the hell would i need an apprenticeship :/

Could someone tell me what sort of stuff i need to get comp tia a+ certification?

Do i need any specific qualifications? Or just money for the course/tests?

Mike i started my own computer repair company in 2004 , for me i was fixing friends and family members computers for free , and my mind set was , if all my friends and family are seeking help maybe the people in my village are as-well , So went from village to town , then to county
If you are wanting to get into computer repairs , this will be a good year to start , for a couple reasons, towards the end of the year allot of people who buy win8 will want there old os back , there will be allot of degrading , in 2014 XP expires will be allot of data transfer etc , so you have a couple years to create a client list ,
Down in Oxford we charge £45 per hour for labour , I could talk about this for a while but if its Programming you want to do then my chat is kinda pointless, so will await a response

Not really, there plenty out there already i personally think in my neck of the woods id be way out of my depth. Plus at only 19 and with a son and partner to think about i dont think its the best plan for myself for the time being. Not to mention im sure funds would be pretty much inaccessable to me for something like that.

A small ad in a local shop costs penny's and you could say for instance name what services IE

PC speedup ,.Data recovery , etc Also there are system builds to sell on ebay no need for money for parts as all builds on ebay require the buyer to pay and wait for 10 days , so you could list all the parts on ebay wait for the buyer to send the money then build the PC only monetary outlay would be for the ad

Even if all you do is one PC cleanup you could get £90 purely for labour , Not sure what the labour prices are in Manchester though

Hmmm, sounds interesting i may wait until i more financially stable with a permanent job before looking further into something like this.

Then i suppose the only option you have as in maintence side is to get hired by one of the local shops to atleast get a footing , or I know BT where having a recruitment drive installing fibre there a pretty good company to start with .
