try taking out your soundcard and putting it back in again and see if that works. also check and make sure that all the connections for the speakers and/or a subwoofer connections are hooked up correctly and make sure everything is connected all the way in the soundcard.

had exactly the same problem with my SB-Live, was fine everywhere apart from in games when i used to get a really bad hissing every now and then.

Tried doing all sorts, unplugging and reseating, trying it in different ports, replacing drivers etc.

In the end I just picked up and Audigy 2 from ebay for £20 and problem solved :D

Heya

Well if you have AC97 integrated sound, it would help getting the newest available drover off the net. I had the exact same problem and nothing seemed to be working. About a month ago, I downloaded the newest driver available from the soundcard manufacturer (Realtek in my case) and it solved the problem. Give it a shot. I can now play games without that horrible noise :)

JAN :D

ok i dowloaded and installed the cmedia ac9739 driver from cmedia.com and i am still getting the annoying popping crackling noise. i might just have to spend some money and buy a new sound card but what im afraid of is it not being the card and if i buy a new one the same thing might happen. i dont want to have to take it to a place to pay them to tell me it was something simple. if i have to is a sound card easy to install?

thanks for all the replies

simply plug the sound card into an empty slot and your pretty much away. It will usually come with a CD to install any needed software but windows will pretty much do everything for you

Ok i fixed the problem i unplugged my sound card and it had a shit load of dust on it. I cleaned it off then plugged it back in and it works fine. at the beginning of playing the game i get a small amount of static but it goes away. one thing though ever since i did this my computer yesterday restarted by itself two times and the game seems choppy. Anyone know why?

Turn the bass down and you should be fine and also treble. That happens to alot of people with RTSs.. There will be too many things that needs to be processed by the computer for bass.
