i just installed a wireless pci card into my desktop that i got from my cousin. i dont know what model it is. ill ask her tomorrow.

what do i have to do to get it working. the computer recognizes its but it cannot auto update. if i download the drivers with my laptop then install them on my desktop, then should the internet work?

you need to know the make and model and ask your cousin if they have the driver CD, if not you will need to find the website and download the drivers from there.

and you know how to get it working right? so it connects to your wireless network...

ok so i got the model number. its a gigabyte GN-WPKG. i downloaded the drivers and installed them on my computer. i rebooted and the gigabyte utility picked up my wireless network. but it cannot connect to it. windows also picked up my wireless connection but again it did not connect. what do i have to do to get my internet to work?

yeah, do you have another PC connected to the network and does the wireless have any security, it should tell you when you try to connect.
if it does, youll need to access the router settings which will involve being wired up the the router, you will then need to type in something on the lines of
192.168.2.1
or
192.168.0.1
or something similar (talk to your cousin maybe).
this will allow you to access the router settings, log in (you may have to talk to your cousin) and from there you can see if there is any security on the wireless and/or what the password for the wireless is.
