okay, i am not a computer person, i never have been, i never will be. i use them to get work done. thats it. so if you could say your answer in layman's terms, i would really appreciate it. thanks in advance.
okay, so my computer, my mom's computer, my sister's computer, and the 18 computers of a certain ****head leech sibling of mine who is getting kicked out are all on a network that the ****head leech sibling made, and that mom, sister and i have no idea how to work. my computer wont log on without the network, neither will sister's or mom's. the cable internet goes through the network too. my question is, how do you configure these things to log on and work without the network, and how do you go about splitting the internet so it will run to 3 computers, with no network, just a router or whatever you use.
all the computers run on linux, sister's and mine on a relatively new version, and mom's on a veryveryvery old version. thats basically all i know.
thank you so much in advance.

go into your web browser and type in 192.168.1.1 and nothing else, then hit enter. If nothing happens try 192.168.2.1. One of these should let you connect to the router and you can change the settings in there, unless it is password protected, in which case you either need to get the password or get a new router. The router is what will split the internet connection between multiple computers. I don't understand what you mean about logging on, you mean connect to the internet and other computers? If it worked before and doesn't now then someone probably removed you from the network.

if the little network jack isnt plugged in, i can't log on because the login screen says it cant authorize my password. when its plugged in and i am on the network i can log in. i want to make it so i can log on without being in the network if that's possible.

What operting system are you using? Windows XP?

Can you choose NOT to login to the domain (network) and simply login to THAT machine? If you are using XP Professional, there should be a little window where you can choose to login to a specific domain. Choose "This Computer", it should be available.

im using linux. suse or something like that. and no, i can't. its either login to the network, or shut off my computer or call it a day cause i can't do anything else.

Oh, Linux. Well that's tricky, my linux knowledge is somewhat....challenged lol.

Can you not ask your sibling to give you administrative rights on your computer? Or at least make it so you can login to your own local machine without the network authenticating it? Sorry I'm not much help...

and to have multiple computers go on the internet from one modem, you're going to have top set up some kind of network, the computers don't have to see each other, but they all need to be plugged into the same router at least

yeah, thats what i want to do, but i want to first get rid of the network this f-up put our computers in. except he messed everything up so that without the network we cant even login to our own computers, which is the only thing i need help with now because i understand the whole modem thing, finally.

well if you can't even log into your own computers on startup, your sibling has really got you over a barrel, the only thing you can do is have him/her give you administrator rights and passwords. Otherwise your only option might be to reformat the drives and set them up independent of each other. I've never used linux so I don't know if there is some simple solution with linux or not.
