Games freezes when splash screens appears

Hi there!

Like I wrote in the title, all the games that I have who starts with a splash sceen freezes at start up (like Bioshock). I'v updated the chipset and video cards drivers, tried differents ways to start these games but nothing so far. Also, Windows consider my optical drive and hard disks as removable hardware. Any help?

-Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe
-AMD Athlon 64 X2 2.2G (939)
-Nvidia GeForce GT8500 1G (2)
-LG Super Multi Blue
-SATA2 500G Seagate 7200 (2)
-4G RAM (2.75 used with XP)
-Windows XP Home with Service Pack 3

How many games are we talking about? It could be corrupted installs, or windows may need re-installing. Also, what do you mean "splash-screen"?

Just out of interest, can you post a screenshot of windows telling you that you can safely remove your HDD's and optical?

sounds like a driver issue, You 'may' need to reinstall windows. but don't quote me on that. It's what I'd do if all my fresh game installations were doing that right as soon as I installed them AND I had tried a few different video drivers (always uninstalling the previous video driver first), Start with a fresh windows install, the latest driver for your video card, then cross yer fingers.

I'd also like to see a screen shot of windows telling you that you can remove your harddrives. That sounds weird. Maybe you have a virus?
