Games cause all sound to cut out?

Hi everyone,

I own 2 games on this computer, Left 4 Dead 2 and Call of Duty 2. I've been trying to enjoy them, and I can, at least for a few minutes at a time. After about 5-15 minutes into play, all audio will just completely cut out. Internet, iTunes, games, Windows sounds, everything. Dead silent. And the only way I can get any sound back is a full restart. Also, this will only happen with Call of Duty 2 when I'm playing multiplayer, never singleplayer. With Left 4 Dead 2 it always happens whether I'm playing online or not. This has happened ever since we got the computer months ago.

I know this problem has something to do with the sound card, because I've tried playing with different speakers hooked up and gotten the same issue.

Will I be able to do something with my current sound card to make this problem go away? Or will I need to replace the sound card? Also if I end up having to replace it, how can I be sure another card will fix the problem before I go out and buy it?

It's EXTREMELY frustrating and I just want to get this figured out before I get new games. My specs are below, thanks in advance!

If it was software issues it would either work or not work at all.
Sounds like hardware problem...If on board try using a pci sound card.

Have you tried uninstalling your current Audio drivers and re-installing the latest?

If it still dont work them most likely the onboard audio chipset is failing.

Id just pick up a cheap soundcard if i were you,it will be much better than on board audio.

Dont get a creative card though if you do get a dedicated sound card,They're horrible with drivers lately....get something like an Asus Xonar DS if you want to keep the price down.

I picked up a new sound card today and that seemed to do the trick. Thanks guys!
