Fuzzy Playback?

Hello,

I just recently noticed, when I play DVD's on my computer, if you pay close attention, some things (mostly smaller things) appear fuzzy. I'm thinking this is due to the small resolution of DVD's (what is that, exactly?) being stretched to my monitor at 1920/1200. I've not ever noticed it before, so I'm not sure exactly. This occurs when reading a DVD from a DVD itself and from an ISO.

Ha, maybe I'm just sitting too close.

DVDs run at 720x480. Of course the more compression there is the "fuzzier" it'll look. But even at the highest resolution, it's going to be blurry if stretched out.

Perhaps you are sitting to close ;)

What resolution is the big screen? If it's an SD TV, then there's no converting. If it's some kind of HD TV it might have less converting (say a 1400x900 perhaps) or maybe the DVD player has better anti aliasing/upscaling.

I don't know, just any standard HDTV. Are there third party programs/plugins that you can use in conjunction with Windows Media Player to give it, say, anti-aliasing?

Then it's either 1080p or 720p. Either way, if you look close enough you'll see that it's not as sharp as full HD videos. And I'm not sure about the third party plugins.

HDTVs and DVD players can vary a fair bit...

Honestly, I never touch Windows Media Player anymore. But something like Media PLayer Classic and FFDSHOW (well, K-Lite codec pack :P) has some stuff built in to enhance the visuals.
