front right channel isn't working

I recently found out that my front right speaker isn't working and I don't know the cause. The speakers are Logitech X-530s and the sound is onboard Realtek AC'97 with driver version (11/17/2004) 5.10.0.5750 provided by Realtek Semiconductor Corp. I've checked all connections and they are fine. If anybody has any ideas please let me know. Thanks.

UPDATE: I just hooked the front channels up to my mp3 player and they both worked so it must be software or the computer hardware, any thoughts? Thanks.

EDIT: I just tried another driver (5.10.0.6080) and it still doesn't work.

Your using the ports on the back of the motherboard, and not on the front of the case correct?

Well if you hooked your speakers up to your MP3 player and they worked, it has to be something with the motherboard connectors or a driver issue.

What about Vista? Or does it not work in either Vista or XP?

I don't think the OS or driver is the problem. I've narrowed it down to the motherboard and the only solution is a new motherboard or new sound card.

Did you check the very basic settings (like not having the pan control all the way left in the audio player software or sndvol32.exe mixer)? Unfortunately I have disabled ac97 audio so can't check the dialogs. Have you tried any ac97 or Windows diagnostics? They would include among other things basic testing of left and right speakers.

Well if the problem is occuring in two different OS's, then it's most likely a motherboard problem.

You can get some cheap 5.1/7.1 sound cards on newegg. I had to do that since my onboard didnt work, i spend about $10 on it. But remember, there really cheap and they dont support EAX (at least mine doesnt).

-OMEGA-, I didn't read the fine print. Lucky I'm not buying a house! I would have added to check stereo pan control on the speakers but for some bizarre reason most pc setups don't have them.

Added later: MatrixEVO responded to your question about whether it happened with in XP and Vista with a conclusion ("I don't think the OS or driver is the problem") rather than an answer (yes, yes). Splitting hairs but sometimes you can go round the block a few times with a wrong conclusion.

Thanks guys, I will just have to get a soundcard then, and this is an excuse to get one as I've wanted one anyways.

~$40 Spencers... $110 PSU... $100X-Fi... Thats a little over your $100 that you got dont you think

Yes, but the PSU is $90 and the X-Fi is $75-80, so it's less then you think.
