Front microphone jack.

My front microphone jack recognizes when a microphone is plugged in but does not receive any sound. Just a few days ago the jack was working fine with the same microphone. The rear jack still works fine.

Did something get knocked loose? Or is it possible I clicked some stupid setting?

check all your sound card settings.

I restored the default settings for the microphone on the sound card settings. The settings on the front and back jack look identical now, but still only the back one works.

Hardware failure? Tried replacing?

Open the PC up and check your connections, they are known to become loose at times.

Check your front panel headers on the motherboard and the cable leader to the jack.
