Freezing like Lawrence Oates

Hi.

My computer is freezing on me so I have to reboot. This happens when I have been on for a while and generally happens when I attempt to open a new application(doesn't matter which).

I have defragged and checked for virus' and reg cleaned. Basically everything I know.

The CPU temp is about 55 and once I reboot I'm good to go for another 5 hours.

Can any computer doctor tell me what is going on?

Cheers,

Ste.

A temp of 55 is pretty high for it not being on load. What's your temps on load?

And what type of CPU and cooler are you using?

If your computer manages to go for another 5 hours or so then I highly doubt the CPU overheating though. Because then it'll shut down far sooner. Or does the temperature gradually increase over time?

http://hcidesign.com/memtest/download.html

download that, it is a program that tests your memory (not YOUR memory, your computers memory :P). Set it up and let it run for at the very least 8 hours, overnight or a day would be better, and if it says not all memory could be used, try opening multiple tests, do that, open one at 1024, another at 1024 etc etc until you reach your memory (1024 is 1 GB, so if you have 2GB, open 2 at 1024)

What are you using to see 55 degrees? If speedfan, don't trust it, get everest, much more reliable and trustworthy

http://www.lavalys.com/products.php?ps=UE&lang=en&page=48

that is a download link to everest trial version, it will show your systems CPU temperatures.

Do you have the latest drivers on everything? Video card, peripherals, chipset etc? If not, get them updated, but make sure that you fully uninstall the old ones first, if you install on top then you will start getting conflicts and crashing, BSODs etc

1. Open Everest up (Takes a few seconds)
2. There should be icons in the center display, click on the one thats labelled 'Computer'. The first one.
3. Click on the last button to the right called 'Sensor'
4. Give it a second or two and your temps should display there

:)

Temperatures!

Hi guys.

Thanks for all your help so far.

The details and temps below are with my computer opened up to allow more air and FireFox running, nothing else in the background. This is the temperature after about 4 -5 hours of straight running. Is this ok? I just don't want to burn my computer out 'cos I don't have the funds to put a new one together.
