Free Malware protection for Windows 2000NT

My Grandfather's Compaq Presario CQ60 (Running Windows Vista Home Premium) got infected with the 'Personal Internet Security' Trojan Virus (which I removed) a couple of days ago, and it got me thinking... My main desktop PC doesn't have Malware protection!

The computer is running Windows 2000NT Professional, and I need to know if there is a free (not trial, free for life) Malware protection system out there that I could download for my PC!

I knew about Malwarebytes, as that is what I used to remove the Trojan from my Grandfather's laptop, however I thought it was just free for a while ?

And I have Anti-Virus, I'm not that stupid haha!
 
I didn't say you were. Yes, malwarebytes is free as long as you download from the link I gave you. They have a free and a paid version. However, the free version doesn't have realtime scanning like the paid version does.

I would highly recommend posting a hijackthis log from his system so we can make sure its totally clean.
