Forum Question about Signatures attention JohnB35

Dear John,

I have searched around looking for a place to email or pm you but I could not find one.

I have read, and re-read your forum FAQ, looking for a rule against adding a website to your signature. In fact the only thing I have found is the following.

What are signatures?[/I]

'Signatures' contain information that you want to include at the bottom of all your posts. This might include pictures, links to your site(s), quotes, etc.

Now I want to be a contributing member of this forum, but I think we are getting off on the wrong foot here.

I have been in the industry for 10 years, and have been an independent consultant for the last 6. I know the answers to most of the questions being asked here.

I just want a little recognition, by posting a link to my site in my sig.

Thank you for your consideration,

I appreciate your feedback.

Tom

if you go "user CP" > "edit your details" there is a homepage URL you can add it in there and when people view your profile they can see it there

For the most part, new members who join and immediately put a link in their signature are here to spam. Maybe you aren't, but removing signature links from any new members solves the problem. No one is out to get you here, but when you join a new site and the first thing you do is promote your own site, people might think that's the only reason you're here. Prove them wrong by contributing a bit first and I don't think anyone will have a problem with you linking your site in your signature.

The one thing that is against the forum rules, and probably the reason your link got removed is affiliate linking as those are almost always spam related. My question is that if you're promoting your own site why would you need to use an affiliate link?

Also a quick search shows you've spammed quite a few forums with your links. It seems here you're actually attempting to contribute but that doesn't seem to be the case with some of the other sites you've posted to.

I'm sorry for my ignorance, but I'm not sure what your referring to when you say it is an affiliate link? Are you speaking of my linking page?

I do try to get my website link out to as many places as I can, to improve my ratings. It has been up for over 6 years now, so I'm sure over the years some of my posting could be considered spam.

I really do want to be a part of this community, and I try to abide by all the rules of any forum that I join.

I understand, no one wants extra posts, just for the sake of posting links. Many of the other forums I have visited, and possibly even posted at, have a spam problem. That just down plays the importance of the forum.

Sorry, I was actually mistaken about the affiliate thing. I found that clicking your link went through an affiliate service but that appears to be something incorporated into the forum, not your specific link.

I removed the info from your signature because like said before by a member, you are a new user here and I usually consider links that to be spam(advertising your own company). However, since it seems you have been contributing to the forum, I will let you keep it. However, it wasn't a good idea to put it back until you got approval. As long as you contribute, I won't have an issue with it.
