Forced To Run Windows 8?

So i have been looking around for a new laptop lately, and it's as if Windows is forcing users to use Windows 8. Maybe my memory serves me wrong but even when Vista or Windows 7 came out, a consumer had the choice between OS. Or i should at least say, for a limited time. Eventually choices went down to one. As much as I would love to have Windows 8, unless i buy an Ultrabook (way overpriced) Windows 8 is just not for me.

Am i totally out to lunch here? I want to hear your opinions.

I only remember the business desktops and laptops which came preinstalled with Vista or 7 had downgrade licenses to XP. I don't remember any of the home ones having downgrade licenses (unless you bought a business/office PC and used it at home).

It doesn't come as a surprise though that new PCs are coming with the newest OS though does it?

No it's not a surprise that it would come with the latest OS, i just remember when i bought my desktop (can't really remember the date) I had the choice between Vista or downgrading to XP. This was an HP desktop when Vista first came out.

Even if the PCs don't come with a downgrade license for Windows 7, Windows 8 isn't that bad to be honest.

Windows 8 isn't all that bad i agree, i just feel it's a pain in the.... and would rather to keep 7.

I'd actually be using Windows 8 right now if it didn't have issues with my built-in crappy sound chip (constant popping, etc.). I think once I get a dedicated sound card I'll be on Windows 8 again.
