For Sale: Linux Ubuntu 9.04 32-bit DVD Installation Disk. Asking $4.00 free shipping and handling to buyers inside the mainland U.S.A. I figured that I would attempt to do DVD installation disks for newcomers who do not know how to get a copy of the Linux Ubuntu Operating System. If you want a 64-bit Linux Ubuntu 9.04 Installation Disk instead I can make one of those also.

I am taking money orders and checks only as payment.

Check out my other item for sale:

Why would people pay for a Ubuntu installation disk when you can get the latest stable official release from them for free?

https://shipit.ubuntu.com/

And if you say for faster delivery, I ordered a single installation disk from that website a week or so ago and have already got it.

Is it even legal to sell that? What with it being released under the GNU General Public License ("GPL")? Now, while I know you can recoupe the cost of your CD, no single blank CD/DVD costs that much.

:: Edit ::

Apparently you can do that. But why, and for that much per copy, I don't know.

No need to make money off of a free item!

+1. I was thinking the same thing. It's supposed to be free.

Maybe the thought was to save some people the time of either downloading/burning or ordering themselves?

It may be worth $4 to some people to not wait "up to ten weeks" for their free disc.

Sheesh, do I have a few people accusing me of a get rich quick scheme? It's $4 for an Ubuntu installation disk people.

Ubuntu 9.10 also still has a lot of bugs in it from what I hear.

i think this is a good idea. i mean, what if someone has dial up internet? it would take weeks to download a 4gb file. and to get a dvd for free off their website takes about 4-6 weeks. with the cost of dvd's, and shipping he is probably making close to no money.

You would ship a CD in that? Thats not what thats meant for, it's for CD storage not shipping.

Doesnt matter, ive sent and received cd's in those perfectly fine before. Thats very similar to the way netflix ships dvd's actually(except they are made out of tyvek vs paper). Just requires a little bit of packing tape and its good to go.

I used to order said discs when I was on satellite, they sent CDs and not DVDs, the DVDs offer additional languages, but apart from that same thing, usually got to my house in 6 weeks.

LOL, get rich quick would be 20 per disc, shops sell printed discs for up to 5$ plus shipping, 4$ USD is what? A Starbucks coffee? Even if he made 1$ a disc on most discs, it's not getting rich unless he 'sells' 1000+ discs. He's offering a service here. Not everyone has the luxury of an internet connection fast enough to download it directly themselves.

i got some ubuntu discs about 4 months ago and they are dvd's.

Not a bad idea man, although my suggestion would be add paypal to your payment options ;) The more options of payment, the better.
