Hey all,
First time attempting to build my own machine. Best way to get the most bang for your buck and I am a student finishing up my degree in 3D rigging and animation, so I gotta get some bang as I get out into the freelance world!
What I would like to get from this post is 1.) whether the hardware I have initially picked out through my own research is compatible for the build, 2.) whether the products I have selected would be considered good buys since I am doing this on a budget starting out, and 3.) whether I have missed anything vital as far as required components for a functional machine.
Uses: heavy 3D rendering, 3D simulations, and other processor intensive work.
Programs: Maya, 3ds Max, Houdini, Zbrush, Adobe Suite (including After Effects)
Case: Cooler Master HAF 912 RC-912-KKN1 - High Air Flow Mid Tower Computer Case
Motherboard: ASUS Z97-A/USB 3.1 LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 ATX Intel Motherboard
CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K Devil's Canyon Quad-Core 4.0GHz LGA 1150 BX80646I74790K Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 4600
GPU: EVGA 04G-P4-2986-KR GeForce GTX 980 FTW ACX 2.0 4GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 SLI Support Video Card
Hard Drive: Crucial MX200 CT250MX200SSD1 2.5" 250GB SATA 6Gbps (SATA III) Micron 16nm MLC NAND Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-1600C9Q-32GXM
Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 P2 80 PLUS PLATINUM Certified 1000W Active PFC ATX12V v2.31/EPS 12V v2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready ECO Thermal Control Full Modular PSU 10 Year Warranty 220-P2-1000-XR NEW Intel 4th Gen CPU Ready Power Supply
Fans: Cooler Master Sleeve Bearing 120mm Silent Fan for Computer Cases, CPU Coolers, and Radiators (Value 4-Pack)
Monitors x2: Acer K202HQL bd Black 19.5" 5ms Widescreen LCD Monitor 200 cd/m2 ACM 100,000,000:1 (600:1)
It all comes to around $1,850 before shipping. I was shooting for under $2,000 for the whole setup. This rig doesn't have to last me forever, I just wanted something that would get me started with room in the case (a big part of why I selected that one) to grow and upgrade. Any help would be greatly appreciated! happy
