Howdy everyone. This is my first post and my first thread on this site and I would be so incredible grateful if someone could elimate all of the stress that my Xbox 360 is giving me. Oh, and I'm sorry if this is on the wrong board.

The problem: My Xbox 360 will not connect to Xbox Live.
"What is it doing?": It tells me IP failed.
My preferred setup (so I can get on the internet at the same time): Cable from wall to Touchstone Telephony Modem to Linksys BEFW11S4 router to Xbox 360.
My backup setup (I want to get this one working first, actually): Cable from wall to Touchstone Telephony Modem to Xbox 360.

I have done automatic IP's, manual IP's, made up IP's, searched DOS for my DNS settings, searched Google for "What is my ISP", and cried.

If you have any information leading to the successful connection to Xbox Live that I have for so longly yearned, then I thank you.

hello noob :P... anyways, do you mean the "IP Address" test failed???

EDIT: btw, the huge fonts aren't needed ;), and are probably more bothersome than cool...

did you follow the alternate routes around the problem that they give you if you select "More Info" directly to the right of the failed test???

I have a laptop with a wireless card that runs off the router. I never use the laptop anymore. As of now the router isn't even plugged in; it's just taking space up on my desk. It's just cable to modem to pc right now.

can you access the internet on that computer?

I used to be able to. Then my wireless range got so small that I had to have my laptop on my desktop desk. Now I just use my desktop.

the computer that is right now connected to your internet, can it access the internet?

the reason i ask is if it can't, then it's your ISP's problem... if it can, it's yours...

That is a really funny question. Yes, the computer that I am on RIGHT NOW is connected to the internet.

oh duh... god i space some things out... :o

k... so go to the farthest tab on the dashboard, select network settings, select edit settings... now list everything that's there, all the way down to Secondary DNS Server...

IP Settings: manual
IP Address: 169.254.112.150
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 169.254.112.142

DNS settings: manual
Primary DNS server: 169.254.112.142
Secondary DNS server: 0.0.0.0

hmm... is there an option to auto detect your settings when you configure your 360?

can't remember, mine worked the first time :P...

if there is, try that... if that doesn't work, i'd call/e-mail MS and ask them... cause i'm all out of ideas...

Ok man thanks for everything.

sorry i couldn't fix it... another thing i just thought of... you could type your router's address (i.e. mine's a Belkin and it's 192.168.2.1) into your web browser's address bar... depending on the brand, it will be different... and figure out some of the vital settings and try and mess around with the others until you get it to work...
