Firewall server Howto?

Yo hey i don't know if this belongs in the security section so move if needed :P

Ehm i have this network here and a win2k server with 2 nic's. Internet is now shared with a router thingie. It has a firewall but i don't get shit of it :S (couldn't find a howto or manual :S lame !$#!#$ company).

So i tought maybe i can make the server a firewall that i can configure easily.
Is this possible/smart? And what software is good/adviced. Tips, tricks and suggestions anyone?

do clarify. maybe proper english?
 
there is a network with a win2k server with 2 network cards. Internet is being shared with a adsl router. But the firewall on that router is weird.
 
Now:

adsl router -> switch -> server & network

I want:

adsl router -> server -> Switch -> network


With a firewall on the server that acts as the firewall on the router but isn't as difficult so i can configure it for the entire network
